John’s Texas Youth Rescue is dedicated to the high risk innocent children our society has created and then done its best to destroy in the ongoing culture wars and self-centered behavior of the adults in their lives.
In a time that seems so long ago, children had four pillars of support to protect them through childhood and launch them into responsible adulthood:
Like a four-legged stool, this created the launch pad they needed.
In today’s environment, we have the following
Family
Of the several hundred high risk children we have worked with in this ministry over the past 30 plus years, less than 1% had both the biological father and mother raising them.
Neighbors
Many of these high risk children live in neighborhoods that are highly drug infested and unsafe. In the others, most often the neighbors rarely interface with each other, much less children. Many are downright hostile to children.
School
Has become a joke. They have removed any sense of Christianity and moral code and tried to substitute administrative platitudes. The results are gang and drug infested babysitting services masquerading as education.
This is NOT a criticism of the individual teachers. Our management team has several family members who, as dedicated long term teachers, have devoted many years trying to overcome the ineptitude and poor decisions of various politicians, judges and bureaucrats.
Church
The decline in church attendance in the past two generations is well documented. If we had not been picking up 15 to 28 children each Sunday morning for decades, they would not have gone to church. I had one new boy aged 14 who had never gone one single day to any church.
The mission of John’s Texas Youth Rescue is to do what we can to restore all four pillars as best we can and pray that we receive the wisdom to learn as we go. We do not have any fixed game plan and will welcome all constructive suggestions. We will always always welcome volunteers of any age who are willing to spend the time to earn these children’s trust. The old saying is true… “ Children spell “LOVE” as “TIME”
